English Shepherds by an Expert

Hammond's book on this breed shows his intense devotion to it and his in depth knowledge as well. In his easy, laid back style, he tells you what you need to know about the whole process of acquiring the dog, breeding it, raising and marketing puppies. This would be a great book for anyone who has decided to go into the dog breeding business regardless of the breed. I really enjoyed this book.

Not vanilla pudding readers

The author is obviously an experienced dog breeder who does not march to the conventional drumbeat of the humdrum. It may be upsetting to some who expect the usual banal hackneyed drill about raising the typical dog. The usual and the commonplace, the ordinary and the prosaic, the facile and the trivial seem to be missing in this book.

Instead, there is a forthright common sense approach to dog rearing, which includes many nontraditional approaches to selecting, feeding, training, and healthcare that you won'tfind in most dog books.

I have owned several English Shepherd dogs over the years and found this book to be quite enlightening as well as entertaining.

From my experiene with this breed, it seems to be very comprehensive in dealing with its background and history, its breed standards, nutrition and training. The author is very thorough when he describes puppy selection, and even delves into the areas of breeding, caring for the puppies as well as marketing them. It is obvious that he has a large kennel and is quite successful with insuring the continuance of the several old bloodlines of the breed.

Along with the chapters on training and acclimating your new puppy, I was particularly impressed with his chapters on nutruition. Certainly a bit unorthodox, but revealing about exactly what counts as unadulterated canine nourishment and what is proper and safe.

In all, a different approach to raising your dog, and especially a dog as rare and intelligent as the English Shepherd. A very good read.

Still Waiting for an Accurate English Shepherd Book

First off, I like the author just for liking English Shepherds. Some people seem to prefer dogs over people...I believe this would be the case with Mr. Hammond, if I am not mistaken. I say this in order for readers to prepare themselves for ways that the author may express himself regarding people at times. (I don't care for those parts, but I understand why he may feel a certain way) I personally think people are pretty special and most dogs would agree I think.

I like that he mentions the exercise / energy requirements of an English Shepherd and that this dog should not be tied down.
I feel that this dog on the cover doesn't represent what English Shepherds look like (at least not the ones I have seen).
Perhaps a different picture would have been a better choice.

This would not be my Go-To book for English Shepherds. These dogs are wonderful...this book does not do them justice, nor does it give owners a true picture of the English Shepherd. By the way, English Shepherds are watch dogs...They DO protect/guard.

For a more accurate description, visit the English Shepherd Club online for free. There are newsletters that one can sign up for if truly interested in learning about English Shepherds, but that is for members. There is a membership fee (minimal).
Reputable breeders are more likely to be listed on the Club site.

A year after the recovery process, Sara decides to become pregnant, as she and her husband had planned before she became ill. She knows there is a risk the pregnancy might provoke the cancer, but feels a deep sense of health and a need to realize it. Pregnancy is pleasant and easy, and towards her labor she persuades a midwife to deliver her at home. The poignant description of her third child's natural birth and her happy laughter on seeing her son are the climax of coming back to life and creating a new life. It all turns out for the best, however, for as soon as Sara has more time she decides to write this book: in it, she wants to provide information to enable people follow it and help themselves. Her effort was certainly crowned with success, and 25,000 copies have so far sold in small Israel, each copy passing among many hands. She emphasizes that the method is best used to prevent illness and slow down the ageing process, rather than as a fire extinguisher, although it is very useful even in difficult cases. Sara Hamo, 61 today, is slim, strong and agile – a living example of the method's effectiveness. She provides personal consultations to people with health problems, and gives courses teaching the method. Sara knows that natural health is not a tradable merchandise, and that people will often prefer chemical or natural medications and food additives to changing their life style – but she will not give up. She believes that, eventually, more people will realize this is the truly good and effective path to a life of quality. This book helped me a lot in dealing with everyday health issues and more drastic ones, too.
It presents a clear, intelligent approach to self healing, using ones own body's resources.
It helps us credit our own body for it's self healing abilities we didn't even suspect existed.
Helped some of my acquaintances and relatives too. Highly recommended.

A Compelling story that suggests a way to heal from malignant disease with a simple logical diet.

At first, I was intrigued with the personal story of the author. The way she handled the difficult treatment of cancer and the insights she had were inspiring.
The second half of the book the author suggests a simple to implement diet that removes from our plate artificial and damaging elements, and brings on all that is healthy and good. Surprisingly, this diet is very easy to understand and implement. I found that using it eliminated the headaches I used to suffer from, and gave me a lot of energy.
Healing from malignant diseases is not an easy path, but it seems this book suggests some hope for those who suffer.
