Extraordinary Resource

Le Petit Robert's most helpful factor is its extensive use of example sentences in which the word being defined is used, allowing those with a weak sense of its meaning and nuance to know its proper use(s). I use it in conjunction with bilingual French/English dictionaries, partly to check whether that's how the French would really say something, and partly to refer to the example uses mentioned previously. That way I have two takes on a word: the corresponding English word, and the different meanings the word conveys in French. A truly invaluable resource for anyone wanting a trustworthy reference for the French language.

Great help for all the students!

As a student of the French language and literature, I can only say that this book helped me a lot. Perhaps it's the easiest way to learn in the same time many new words, and to find out what are the differences between the meanings of the words which mean almost the same thing. I come from the country were we can only find it at the University, and it is still very expensive for an ordinary student. Anyway I am using it any time I can get a chance. In my opinion every student who is studying French language should have it. Congratulations to the authors!

Best French reference dictionary you'll likely find.

For foreign students who are seriously interested in the French language, the Larousse and the "petit Robert" are probably the most lastingly useful single-volume French monoglott dictionaries easily available outside France. They are roughly the same size, physically and in the number of headwords contained. The print is small in the Larousse, even more so in the "petit Robert", but the format is well done, or at least it's been in older editions; mine is from the 90's. Resort to a handglass.

The Larousse is perhaps a bit to be preferred for general use, the Robert for those who have special interest in the historical associations of words. Both are reasonably good for reading belletristic. I recommend Robert even for those who rarely read French, but can command the language well enough to read its clearly written definitions; it comes in handy for when reading European history. I can't say it never fails to supply the needed information, but in most cases I come away edified.

New editions are very expensive, but cut-rate copies can be gotten here on Amazon, or in the few remaining used bookstores in NYC, Chicago, California etc.

Be a Professional

The Profession of Dietetics: A Team Approach is essential for a dietetics major. This is not your typical textbook with pages and pages of information that you will be tested on later. This textbook shows you all of your options when you are entering into a career in nutrition and dietetics and also how to achieve your career. The beginning of the book starts out with the history of dietetics which provides a lot of valuable information such as a quote from Babylonian stone tablets, "If a man has pain inside, food and drink coming back to his mouth...let him refrain from eating onions for three days." This writing was from around 2500 B.C. and this is the first known written dietary recommendation. As a living organism we live off of food and we need to know the adequate amounts of everything that we intake. The book’s first chapter describes how food and health have always directly correlated throughout history. Although this is true the profession of dietetics has progressed rapidly in the past 100 years. I liked that the book used evidence of prenatal dietary prescription from the bible. The book shows you a profile of a professional including their background and answers many of the questions that may arise. It also includes suggested activities, selected websites, suggested readings, and references that I have found to be very helpful.
This book is very easy to read, it is as if the author is in your head. Once a question arises after reading a section it seems that it is the title or theme of the next section. So therefore your questions are answered immediately. Now that may not be the case for everyone but this was my experience. The layout of the chapters flow very well. The authors use of titles and clearly defined subtitles help organize all of your thoughts. Lots of graphs, pictures, and data to look at! Personally those are the best pages to me because even though you are reading does not mean you need to look at word after word for hundreds of pages. That is why I prefer this textbook over Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism by Sareen S. Gropper.
The book is called a team approach because that is what they describe dietetics as. This is referring to having physicians and dietitians work together for the health of a patient. It describes different ways you are able to achieve your goal such as showing the importance of communicating. It tells you the path to success in dietetics such as education and training, supervised practice experience, credentials, and joining professional associations. All and all, this is my favorite textbook I have because it is answering my questions I have about my future and enlightening me in what I need to do to get where I want to go.

Wow what an informative book! It covers all the questions you think of when deciding to be a dietician. I just got the book, but I am already through chapter 2 and will definitely keep this book for references even after my class!

About the Author
Kevin B. Connolly used to be Head of Quantitative Research at James Capel & Co. He then joined Cresvale International Asset Management as Director responsible for instituting scientific risk management for Cresvale's principal Japanese warrants market-making section. He is currently undertaking research into complex volatility trading for Refco Overseas Ltd, and is setting up sales and trading systems for Japanese warrants and convertible bonds for Independent Capital Corporation. He also lectures at City University Business School and London Guildhall University, UK.

Update needed but okay for beginners

Kevin B. Connoly's "Buying and Selling Volatility" is a useful work for beginning option traders and market makers, especially those coming from other fields. However, one should be strongly cautious on two fronts: 1) the book is now outdated by some years, both in strategies and more sophisticated technological advances (faster and better random number generators, automatic execution, VBA & C++ code, utilities, Excel advances, distributed networks, etc.); and 2) this book only addresses some simple strategies, and senior desks and hedge funds will be light years beyond those described here.

Both of these caveats are as one should expect from a book. Think about it, if Connolly had the holy grail of volatility trading, he would not write a book about it, he would be trading options.

This book, followed by Baird's superior work "Option Market Making" should give beginning junior traders and trainees a good foundation in basics, vocabulary, model techniques, etc. However, one should not look at this book as the only answer or a prime reference or authoritative. The chief advantage of BaSV is that it isolates option trading and techniques as a topic. In most other finance books, or even option pricing books, strategy and market making are left to the reader to figure out for themselves. Connolly joins Baird in writing from the perspective of a trader, not an academic. For this perspective alone it may be useful. However, for those with limited budgets, I suggest buying only Baird, and skipping this work.

Good for beginners..

I found this book to be a good beginner book in trading . The chapters didn't go into much depth for more advanced traders . I would say that if your imtimidated by math then this book will be a good buy , but if you want depth and a bang for your buck ..you could do better.

Very good if you are into delta-neutral trading

This book describes mainly two strategies today known as "Gamma scalping" (Long Volatility, Option BUYING) and "Reverse Gamma scalping" (Short Volatility, Option SELLING). Although I was aware of those strategies the author does an incredbile job to clarify them, explaing them in the volatility context and so giving a complete picture of how and when to use them. This does not mean that there is not more to learn about them after reading this book but it gives a very solid starting point if you are interested in this kind of delta-neutral (neutral to market direction) trading. If you master the subject and apply (!) your knowledge to the market then (and only then) the $150 pricepoint for this book is a BARGAIN!!!

In addition to recording many award-winning albums for kids, he is also the author of Dear Santa: The Letters of James B. Dobbins, illustrated by R. W. Alley.

Mr. Harley performs onstage around the country and lives in Massachusetts. A version of this tale appears on his Grammy Award-winning album Blah Blah Blah: Stories about Clams, Swamp Monsters, Pirates & Dogs.

If you would like your child to be entertained while he/she learns a valuable lesson of What It Is All About, this is the book for you. To the naysayers who will hold up their hands in horror that this is a book about Santa, all I can say is that somehow, without your ever having read it, you've missed it. It is not a book about Santa; it is a book about the true, original, one-and-only Theme of Christmas.

Longtime radio talk show hosts and authors Ken and Daria Dolan set out to write an indispensable book specifically addressing today's financial issues. These include the difficulties faced by the spouses of people who died on September 11, as well as the struggles of investors who lost their life savings in the slumping stock market. "Be prepared for anything.... We've all learned the hard way that we must be ready for the unthinkable." Although the chapter "Preparing for the Unexpected" offers specific and unique tips on insurance, tax, benefits and other coping strategies for widows as well as the recently unemployed, most of the book contains information on insurance, retirement, debt, investing and estate planning that can be found in any number of personal finance titles. Most of the Dolans' advice-lock in a low mortgage rate, avoid debt, buy bonds with staggered interest rates, etc.-isn't new. Still, the book does offer friendly, colloquial advice, as the Dolans discuss their own spending, who balances the checkbook and how they've coped with various life events. The sidebars (labeled "Dolan Ah-Ha!" and "Dolan Bottom Line") and lists of helpful Web sites and books break up the text and boil down big ideas. While useful, this will best serve neophytes and isn't essential reading for people already comfortable with handling their finances.

Their practicum includes such advice as waiting until the 50s to purchase long-term care insurance, asking auto salespeople to "quote it clean," and spotlighting questions to ask brokers. Solid education about finances

All the companies in the world are in the business of selling products or services so that they can make money. The only way for them to prosper is to make people buy whatever it is that they are selling. It is not easy to say no to everything, but this book teaches reader how to protect their money and make better money decisions.

In this book, the authors teach readers about investments, college funding, credit cards, first and second homes, and financial planners. I think more people should be educated about their finances. I recommend this book.

A great overall guide to help get your accounts in order

This is a great overall guide to get your financial house in order. The car chapter is worth the price of the book alone--it helped me save big last weekend when I was renegoiating my lease agreement.
As a new dad, the chapters on handling family finance and insurance will prove invaluable. We often forget to revaluate our financial needs when we get caught up in a new arrival.
A great buy, a great addition to my libarary.

Everything you need to know about money...

As my father's health is beginning to decline, my wife and I recently found ourselves facing the difficult task of talking with my parents about their estate and finances. No other book helped us think about the questions we needed to ask and the way we needed to ask them like "Don't Mess with my Money." Not only did we discover that they needed a new insurance plan, but we also learned about ways to make smarter decisions about our OWN investments. I couldn't believe how many resources were packed into this one book, and would recommend it to readers of any age, no matter what their incomes are.

Una storia dalla quale traspare non solo l'amore per la scrittura e per la mitologia greca, ma che, parola dopo parola mostra quanta meticolosa ricerca ci sia stata dietro. E rende anche pi� interessanti personaggi che gi� mi avevano affascinato nella mia adolescenza.
